Stop by the Kirby Lounge Tuesday, April 21st for the Spring Sustainability Fair! The theme is Energy, Campus, and Community.
Presentations kick off in Kirby Lounge at 11 am with UMD faculty member Mike Mageau, Center for Sustainable Community Development, as he presents research on "Wind Power! Community wind projects in NE Minnesota".
At noon Andrew Bentley, Brandon Eberle, and Scott Norr, from the UMD Elect & Comp Engineering department, will be presenting "Campus Energy Research - Malosky Solar Array." Also from the UMD Elect & Comp Engineering dept is Jeron Smith, Tom Soldner, Drew Jensen, David Buszmann, and Paul Weber, who will be presenting "Campus Energy Research - Multiple Energy Source Integration" at 12:30pm.
At 1pm, Tom Ferguson, 3M McKnight Professor, UMD Elect & Comp Engineering, will be presenting "Energy: Choices, Issues, and UMD's Role."
At 2pm, learn how you can reduce your carbon footprint and your energy bills with Dean Talbott, from Minnesota Power, who will present "Go lean before you go green: Why energy conservation comes first."
A panel of local college and university sustainability coordinators will be held at 3pm, to find out " How Twin Ports universities and colleges addressing sustainability" Panelists are Mindy Granley from UMD, Janice Crede from UWS, Deanne Roquet from LSC, and Tom Brekke from CSS.
Finishing out the day will be "Hartley Nature Center- Search For Smart Energy", a presentation held outside at the Kirby Bus Hub at 4pm. Stop by to see alternative energy in action!
Booths will be tabling throughout the day, including UMD Office of Sustainability, UMD Office of Civic Engagement, Minnesota Power, Conservation Technologies, True North AmeriCorps, David Syring's Anthropology Seminar Class Sustainability Projects, NE Minnesota CERTs, Duluth Community Garden Program, Duluth Community Supported Herbalism, Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, Jes Durfee Glass Blowing, and more!
